Keeping students motivated and engaged in their learning is key to academic success. At Union Colony Schools, we believe that learning and growing is inherently fun, but our teachers also know how to infuse joy into the school day. Here are 3 ways we build fun into the school year at our tuition-free K-12 charter schools:
1. Music, PE & Arts
Music, art and physical education are a central focus of our program from kindergarten all the way to 12th grade. All Union Colony K-5 students enjoy weekly music and art classes taught by certified, experienced teachers. And daily physical education helps students develop physically and cognitively while having fun with their peers.
At the preparatory level, our vibrant arts program includes a diverse offering of classes from ceramics to painting and drawing. We also have a variety of choir classes and a successful competitive jazz band. Our Drama department offers opportunities to participate in theater, both on-stage and behind the scenes, in several productions throughout the year.
2. Outdoor Learning
Our elementary campus offers room to get outside and play on our spacious playgrounds and learn about the local Colorado eco-systems in our outdoor learning center. Garden beds, featuring a pumpkin patch, provide children the chance to dig in the dirt and experience our natural world first-hand. We’re also adding greenhouses soon to harness Colorado’s ample sunshine and teach children about the plant life cycle.
3. Community Events
We pack the fun into our school year. Our students enjoy showing their school spirit and expressing themselves during spirit week, school wide dances and costume contests. From our Fall Carnival at the elementary level, to sporting events to cheer on our athletes, our amazing community never misses an opportunity to come together and celebrate.
