Why Enroll in a Charter School in Greeley

Students in a Union Colony Elementary School gather together on a colorful carpet. They are facing a large digital screen and the teacher is sitting in the front of the room.

The choice between private, public and charter schools can be overwhelming. From curriculum to mission, transportation to tuition, the seemingly endless options for personalization can make narrowing down your decision even more difficult. If you are new to charter schools, we’d like to take this opportunity to demystify the charter school choice and illuminate the incredible tuition-free education available for Kindergarten through 12th grade students in Greeley at Union Colony Schools.

What is a Charter School?

A charter school is a publicly funded, independently operated public school. Most charter schools are started from the ground up, by a team of passionate educators and parents who see a need in the community and decide to fill it. Our small schools are no different: Union Colony Schools were started out of a desire to offer students and the greater Greeley community a tuition-free option for a college preparatory education in a caring, student-first setting.

What Can a Charter School Offer?

Charter schools are usually centered on the needs of the student, often through a personalized curriculum or specialized offerings. Free to choose their best path to success, charters can be an exciting hub of innovation and creativity. Highly qualified teachers are often attracted to work at charter schools for a chance to teach in a less restrictive way, with greater creative freedom, or with like-minded teachers and staff.

Union Colony Schools offers opportunities that just can’t be found at bigger schools:

  • Extensive art and music programs

  • Personalized learning

How Do I Enroll in a Charter School?

Enrolling at our tuition-free charter school is easy and open to everyone. The first step in the admissions process is to apply to attend Union Colony Schools through the Greeley-Evans School District 6 website by completing the Enrollment Application Form. Indicate Union Colony Schools as your school of choice on the form and complete your application.

All Union Colony students must also be registered with the Greeley-Evans School District. New and returning students can complete the registration process on their website.

If interest in our school is above available capacity, we hold an annual lottery in February and utilize a waitlist, if necessary. After the lottery, students can be enrolled at any point in the year if seats are available.

The final step to enroll at Union Colony is a required visit to campus for you and your child to meet with school staff. You’ll bring a few documents for registration and get to know your new school!

In a sea of large schools and endless options, our small, student-centered schools feel like the perfect place to call home. Ready to choose a charter school for your child’s K-12th grade school journey? We’re enrolling and can’t wait to welcome you.
